that babywearing is fast becoming the norm, but if we did, one place we could find it is in the fabric store. McCall’s now has a pattern for a pouch and a mei tai. (The straps on the mei tai look pretty skinny to me, and the pouches look too big for the models, but hey, it’s a step!)
If you’re a DIYer, don’t skip the free instructions at Sleeping Baby Productions. I happen to be partial to the Ball Baby Overall pattern, but there are other cool patterns hosted there as well. There’s even a link to a free downloadable pattern for a soft structured carrier for those DIYers who prefer carriers that click.

I am definitely a DIY-er but…. need lots of help.
Oh wow, thats cool though. I mean if it gets people into babywearing and not just immediately going for the “de facto” carriers that all big store chains carry than thats great. Plus you know, some people don’t have consistant net access and so a pattern would be really great for them, or they are new to sewing. Frankly…If I was a DIY-er and new to it, i’d probably buy the patterns so I could be sure I made everything the right size. hehehe. Yes indeed though, it IS a start!
I must agree that from the picture, the pouch does look too big… and, to top it, it was worn by a male model (who are usually bigger in size compared to females)
