Magic City Slingers maintains a library of baby slings as well as babywearing instructional materials. The main benefit of a paid membership in Magic City Slingers is the privilege of borrowing items from the sling library. We also have the sling library at meetings, where anyone can learn about and try on the library slings, and we use library slings when we speak and demonstrate for other organizations. These slings get a lot of exposure and a lot of use!
We have acquired most of our slings with vendor support in the form of outright donations, substantial discounts, or trades for photographs. We acquired 9 slings from Attached to Baby, an internet baby sling boutique, as the prize for winning a photo contest. Some of our slings have been donated by members. In addition to the slings listed here, we have quite a few slings circulating in the library that are on loan from leaders.
We still need library slings! We are growing rapidly and have new members join every month. For example, at our April 2008 meeting, seven new members joined, and even more new babywearers were in attendance. In July 2008, we had 27 carriers checked out from our library. (We’ve been busy having babies and preparing for International Babywearing Week since then and haven’t counted carrier action … but the library is still just as active.) We are averaging about 30 adults in attendance at each meeting. We are seeking all types of slings, but only those manufactured by established businesses that carry product liability insurance. If you would like to expose your product to the Birmingham market, please contact us through our main website, www.magiccityslingers.com.
